A GPA is easier to check when you separate it into courses, grade points, and credit hours. The important detail is that a four-credit course counts more than a one-credit course.
Collect the right figures
Use the grade-point scale published by your school. Write down the grade points and attempted credits for every course included in the term.
Calculate quality points
Multiply each course’s grade points by its credits. Add those quality points, then divide by the total credits. For example, 4.0 over three credits and 3.0 over four credits gives 24 quality points across seven credits, or 3.43.

Check local rules
Repeated courses, withdrawals, pass/fail classes, and transferred credits may be treated differently. Compare your estimate with the registrar’s current policy.
