Skimming and studying are different speeds
The estimate covers continuous reading. Dense material, note-taking, equations, and unfamiliar vocabulary add time.
A 3,000-word article takes about 15 minutes at 200 words per minute, before adding time for notes.
Choose an honest reading pace
- Paste the text or enter a known word count.
- Set a reading speed that fits the material.
- Compare faster and slower speeds for a useful range.
Time the estimate leaves out
- Using a skimming speed for close study.
- Forgetting to include captions or required references.
- Treating the result as a deadline without a buffer.
