Exam Score Calculator

Work backwards from a target course grade to the score required on a weighted exam. Use a current grade that does not already count the exam as zero.

Target grade scenario

Use your grade before the exam, the course grade you want, and the exam weight from the syllabus.

Planning for a weighted final

Working backwards from the target

With an 82 current grade and a 30% final, reaching 85 requires 92% on the exam.

When the answer is above 100 or below 0

A result above 100% means the target is unreachable on a standard exam without extra credit or another grade change.

Rules the calculator cannot see

  • Entering 0.30 when the field expects 30.
  • Using a current grade that already includes the final.
  • Ignoring replacement or minimum-exam rules.

Questions about Exam Score Calculator

What if the required score is below zero?

Your current work has already secured the target even if the exam score were zero, assuming the stated weighting is complete.

Does the current grade include the final exam?

It should be the course grade before the exam is added. A gradebook preview that already counts the final as zero will give the wrong setup.

What if the course requires a minimum exam score?

Compare the calculated target with that separate minimum. Meeting the overall course target may not satisfy a component rule.
